Series 1: The Puffy McPuff

AGAINST OPTIMIZATION

The puffer jacket is an object of optimization. Designed to insulate, protect, and perform, its visual language is typically restrained: neutral colours, streamlined construction, minimal decoration. It is designed to do its job, and then disappear.

This collection takes that highly engineered object and introduces a different set of values: imperfection, intuition, randomness, excess, and play.

Through hand painting, airbrushing, patchwork, appliqué, and other analogue textile processes, each garment becomes a record of human intervention. Marks are made by hand. Surfaces accumulate. Decisions remain visible. No two outcomes are intended to be the same.

The work explores the tension between the engineered and the handmade, the optimized and the unpredictable. A garment designed around efficiency becomes a canvas for inefficiency; a functional layer becomes a site for expression.
